Sputtering technology is a metalizing process whereby a "target" metal is literally atomically bombarded with positive ions, breaking down the target, which is negatively charged, atom by atom. PET film is unwound and passed over target materials. "Excited" atoms are then collected and evenly deposited onto ultra-clear optical grade polyester film, which is the base material in most of VRcool window film.
Sputtering is also done in a vacuum chamber, but the metalizing is achieved at the atomic level. In brief, electromagnetic fields direct streams of ions from a chemically inert gas (usually argon) toward the metal such as silver, stainless steel, copper, gold, titanium, nickel, chromium and aluminum, and metal oxide compounds like ITO(indium tin oxide) and ATO(antimony tin oxide), etc.
Our sputter film consists of polyester film, metallic coating with sputtering method, adhesive and scratch-resistant coatings.
VRcool's remarkable multi-layer sputter coated films that have a high visible light transmission of up to 80%, yet dramatically reduce infrared energy and over 99% of the ultraviolet radiation.
